SOTE-MOOC

As part of the “Continuing Professional Education for Nurses Granted with a Diploma in General Nursing Outside the EU/EEA” project, an Orientation to the Finnish Social and Health Care System MOOC has been developed. This MOOC will be available as an open-access learning resource on DigiCampus starting in January 2025. It is targeted at individuals trained as nurses outside the EU and EEA who wish to qualify as nurses in Finland.

The MOOC’s purpose is to familiarize participants with: 

  1. Ethical guidelines and principles in nursing
  2. Patient and client safety
  3. The Finnish social and health care system and its regulatory framework 

Upon completing the course, the student will:

  • Understand ethical guidelines in Finnish healthcare and their importance in nursing
  • Recognize the significance of patient safety in the role of a nurse
  • Be familiar with various Finnish social and healthcare service systems and relevant legislation
  • Be able to find necessary information about Finland's social and healthcare service systems

The MOOC is worth three ECTS credits and requires approximately 74 hours of study. It can be completed at one’s own pace and is available in both Finnish and English. Laurea University of Applied Sciences administers the MOOC, with funding provided by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment (JOTPA).

The training has been funded by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment. The Service Centre promotes the competence development of working-age people and the availability of skilled labour. The operations of the Service Centre are overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
