In nursing, patients are often encountered whose ability to communicate is limited for one reason or another. Permanent or temporary limitations can be caused by age, illness, disability, mental health background, dementia, or other reasons.
The morning session of the seminar featured presentations related to qualification training from universities of applied sciences, the labor sector, and key authorities, such as the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri), Valvira, and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In the Continuing Professional Education for Nurses Granted with a Diploma in General Nursing outside the EU/EEA project, the Orientation to Finnish Social and Healthcare MOOC has been developed to support nurses who graduated outside the EU/EEA in qualifying as registered nurses in Finland.
The first students of the Diploma in General Nursing outside the EU/EEA project´s training began their qualification studies in the spring, consisting of theoretical studies and work placement in addition to workshop training.

Learning the language in real environments provides an opportunity to experience strong participation and gives meaning to language development.
Despite of that annually graduates about 4500 professionals with competence of general nursing, this number will not meet the national requirements for nurses.
The training has been funded by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment. The Service Centre promotes the competence development of working-age people and the availability of skilled labour. The operations of the Service Centre are overseen by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
